Tommy Joe Crowder

NORTHPORT Tommy Joe Crowder, age 61, of Northport, died Jan. 26, 2009, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Five Points Baptist Church with Rev. Ben Jameson officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardesn with Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at Five Points Baptist Church. The body will lie in state one hour prior to services at the church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Hirtes Crowder, and his grandparents, James and Fannie Gray.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley C. Crowder; his daughter, Stacy Jo Gaddy of Northport; his son, Chris Crowder (Christina) of Northport; his mother, Catherine W. Crowder of Northport; his sister, Sharon Crowder Bolton (Ron) of Northport; and his grandchildren, Kate Gaddy, Tori Crowder, Carli Crowder, and Salley Crowder.
Tommy was born in Tuscaloosa on April 14, 1947. He was a native and lifetime resident of Northport. He graduated in 1965 from Tuscaloosa County High School and served his country from 1966 to 1968 in the 101st Airborne Division. He retired after 30 years of service with Alabama Gas Corporation. Tommy enjoyed playing with his grandchildren, going to the beach, riding his Harley, and spending time with family and friends. He was a very loved husband, daddy, and Pops. He will be dearly missed by many.
Pallbearers will be Ron Bolton, Ronnie Hendrix, Andy Oswalt, John Floyd, Tommy Hayes, Phillip Kinard, David Thacker, and Johnny Wheat.
Honorary pallbearers are Bob and Geraldine Dockery, Jimmy and Martha Hinton, Faye Creel, Sid and Eva Bolton, Kenneth and Loretta Fretwell, Gary and Linda Hahn, Charles and Judy May, Joe and Jane Cameron, Cliff and Martha Barger, Les Markham, Calvin Stripling, Barry Colburn, Billy and Kay Fields, Jimmy and Charlene Smalley, Regina and Jeff Ryles, Hal and Cindy Rozelle, Beasor and Margaret Walker, Hester and Nancy Crowder family, employees of Alagasco, employees of Tuscaloosa Blueprinting, Five Points Baptist Church, friends and neighbors of Smith Acres, Harley Riding family and friends, and Buddy's Breakfast Club.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Five Points Baptist Church Building Fund.
