Services for Kenneth M. Ricks, 61, of Lufkin, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 10, 2014 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Lesly Wilkinson and Bro. Sherman Hoot officiating. Interment will follow in the Gann Cemetery.
Kenneth was born January 6, 1953 in Lufkin, Texas, the son of the late Geneva (Hough) and Melvin Glenn Ricks. He passed away Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at his residence.
Kenneth was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He graduated from Lufkin High School and worked several jobs until he went to work with Temple-Inland. He retired from Temple-Inland after 25 years as a millright. After retirement he spent his time hunting and fishing. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and his dog, Trouble. He was a member of Union Springs Missionary Baptist Church in Corrigan. He loved working in his church as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, treasurer and church bus driver, as well as repairing broken things in the church. He enjoyed cooking and having family and friends over and also enjoyed working in the garden. Kenneth was a member of both the Angelina Masonic Lodge #1263, A.F. & A.M. and the Burke Masonic Lodge No. 833, A.F. & A.M. He was Past Master of the Angelina Masonic Lodge #1263, A.F. & A.M. in Zavalla.
In addition to his parents, Kenneth was preceded in death by his sister, Suzette Ricks.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of Union Springs Missionary Baptist church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Kenneth's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society , 212 Gene Samford Drive, Lufkin, TX 75901; or the American Heart Association , 10060 Buffalo Speedway, Houston, TX 77054.
