William Howard Barnes

Mr. William Howard "Billy" Barnes, 73, passed away on September 8, 2015, at his residence in Pheba. Billy was born May 4, 1942, in Columbus the son of the late D.H. and Inez VanDevender Moore. He was a member of McCloud Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church near Brooksville. He was a life-long overland truck driver, having driven for Royal Trucking, Miller Transporters, Olen Burrage Trucking, and Cecil Johnson Logging.
Billy was an avid horse racer and Mississippi State University fan. He enjoyed watching the "Young and the Restless." He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father: Howard Barnes; and by his sister: Patsy Moore Buchanan.
Funeral services will be Friday, September 11, 2015, at 2:00 P.M. from Pheba Baptist Church in Pheba with Reverend Terry Rhodes officiating. Burial will follow in Pheba Cemetery in Pheba. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include His Two Daughters, B.J. McCarter (Kris) of Pheba and Brittney Harpole (Jarrod) of Cedar Bluff; His Son, Timothy Barnes of Vernon, AL; One Grandson: Sawyer "Scooter" Harpole; His Sister, Barbara Moore of Brooksville;
His Brother, Dennis Moore of Myrtle Beach, SC; and a number of nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Pallbearers will be Glenn Mann, Jimmy McKee, Jeremy Cantrell, Joey Lane, Buddy Miller, Donnie Miller, Bob Washington, Paul Clardy, Douglas "Bubblegum" Smith, and Sawyer "Scooter" Harpole.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Russell Forrester, Steve McKee, Curtis McKee, Bobby Joe McKee, David Hodges, Larry Myers, Butch Childs, Uncle John Watson, Randy Stapleton, Bobby Ray Hadaway, Ellis Dunn, Cecil Johnson, Members of the Pheba Racing Stables, and Dr. Edmund A. Miller, Jr.
Visitation will be Thursday 5:00-8:00 P.M. at Calvert Funeral Home and from 1:00-2:00 P.M. Friday at Pheba Baptist Church in Pheba.
