Virginia Irene Smith
(4 Mar 1917 - 12 Jul 2008)
Virginia Irene Smith Embry, 91, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2008, in Fort Worth, surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Christ the King Episcopal Church, 3290 Lackland Road, Fort Worth 76116. Burial: Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Greenwood Funeral Home.
Virginia Irene Smith Embry was born in Los Angeles but considered herself an Oklahoma girl of the generation tempered by the Great Depression and World War II.
Virginia and George C. Embry Jr. were high school sweethearts and married in 1937, only parting 59 years later at George's death. They spent most of their married life in Austin, moving to Fort Worth in 1979.
Her personality can be summed up as a reflection of her father's charm and good nature; and with that, she learned to endure all things for love of her husband and children.
Survivors: Sons, George L. Embry and Clark C. Embry; grandsons, Jon C. Embry, Todd H. Embry and wife, Denise, and Jason S. Embry; five great-grandchildren; brother, David Smith and wife, Sue; and sister, Amy Kutac and husband, Edward.
