Martha Jackson Cavender, 78, passed away Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007, in Arlington.
Memorial service: 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8, at St. Albans Episcopal Church, 911 S. Davis, Arlington.
Martha Jackson Cavender was born in Dallas on Feb. 11, 1929, to John and Willie Jackson. She was a graduate of Sunset High School and attended the University of North Texas pursuing a degree in fine arts. A gifted artist, Martha developed a career in design and illustration. She was a devoted wife and loving mother to her children and stepchildren, and a dedicated church and community volunteer.
Her family and friends will always remember Martha as a kind, creative and gentle spirit. Her presence in their lives will be greatly missed.
The family would like to thank the medical staff at Arlington Memorial Hospital, especially the doctors and nurses in ICU, for their professional, compassionate care.
She was preceded in death by her twin brother, Jimmie Jackson; and her husband of 37 years, Richard F. Cavender.
Survivors: Sister, Kathryn Moody of La Mesa, Calif.; her daughters, Pam Kennedy and her husband, Henry of Naples, Fla., Leslie Friedman and her husband, Lee of Arlington and Aimee George and her husband, Darrell of Cedar Park; her son, Blake Whitley and his wife, Julie of Arlington; stepchildren, Rick Cavender and his wife, Sara of Harvey, La., Steve Cavender and his wife, Ann of Arlington and Nancy Zylich and her husband, Karl of Trumansburg, N.Y.; 19 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a cat named Boo.
