John Edmond Lucas

John Edmond Lucas, 68, of West Hanover Township, PA, died Friday, December 2, 2011 at the Harrisburg Hospital.
He was born July 24, 1943 at Camp White, Oregon. He was the son of the late John Dalton Lucas and the late Cherrye (Smith) Lucas. John graduated from Athens High School in Athens, Ohio in 1961. He attended Ohio University until 1964 when he enlisted in the U.S. Army serving four years on active duty as an electronic warfare operations analyst. Upon receiving his honorable discharge in 1968, John attended Ohio State University, earning his B.A. in Education in 1972.
John worked for most of his career in personnel for the Veterans Administration and the Department of the Army, retiring as Civilian Personnel Officer at Fort Indiantown Gap, PA in 1995.
John was an avid outdoorsman and train enthusiast. He belonged to Circle of Track Model Railroad Club, and was a member of Hunters and Anglers.
John also served as a member of State Senator Piccola's Committee for Veterans Affairs.
John is survived by his wife of 32 years, Sharon (Forbus) Lucas. In addition to his wife he is survived by a daughter Danielle of West Hanover Township, step-sons Alan Grossnickle husband of Jennifer, Chester, VA, and Eric Grossnickle, husband of Julie, Canal Fulton, OH, a brother Steven M. Lucas of Annapolis, MD, his Aunt Jeannette Mitchell of El Reno, OK, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by four grandchildren: Heidi, Anna, Isaiah and Anthony Grossnickle.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, December 9, at Grace Bible Fellowship Church, 1250 Colonial Road, Harrisburg with Rev. Carl Spackman officiating. Interment will be at the family's convenience at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Arrangements by Hoover Funeral Homes and Crematory Inc., Linglestown.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society , 3211 N. Front St., Suite 100, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
