Dr. James Roe Garner II

Dr. James R. Garner, age, 80, came to the Bethany area in 1923. Received his AB Degree from Bethany Peniel College, his BS, and Masters Degree from OU and his Ph.D. from the University of Iowa. He was a Professor of Political Science and History for 5 years at Olivet Nazarene College, for 3 years at Northwest Nazarene College and for 27 years at BNC. He was a member of the Bethany First Nazarene Church, the C. Warren Jones Missionary Society, SANE, Bethany Chamber of Commerce, Bethany Historical Society, and the American Political Science Assn. He was active in local politics, local election board inspector, delegate to the General Assembly 1920 to 1960.
Survived by his wife, Jewel; 2 daughters Ann Springer of Tampa FL, and Ruth Boyd of OKC; sister, Blanche Garner of Bethany; 6 grandchildren, Cecillia Dohrn, Larry Dohrn Bryan Dohrn all of OKC, Sandra Springer, Debra Springer, and Eugene James Springer, all of Tampa FL.
Services 10 am Monday Bethany First Nazarene Church, interment in Bethany Cemetery Directed by Guardian West Funeral Home. Memorials to the Garner Memorial Fund at BNC is preferred
