Glenn L. Jayroe, 81, of Willis, Texas passed away on December 9th, 2018 at his home in Willis.
Visitation will be Thursday the 20th of December at 10:00am at Kingwood Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00pm on Thursday the 20th of December at Kingwood Funeral Home with Chaplain Larry Gaylord officiating. Burial will follow at Houston National Cemetery. Arrangements are by Kingwood Funeral Home.
Glenn was born in Amarillo, Texas to Perry and Ima Jayroe on July 18th, 1937. He graduated from West Texas A&M in Canyon Texas with a degree in Business Administration.
In his earlier years, he enjoyed competitive pairs roller skating, playing softball and making it to the nationals in both sports. Later on, he also enjoyed bicycling and participated in the Hotter Than Hell 100 race as well as the MS 150 race from Houston to Austin. In his later years, he became fond of square dancing and was a member of several Houston area clubs. This was something special to him since this is where he met a good friend named Emily, who would later become his wife. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and served in the United States Army and was awarded The Bronze Star Medal, The Meritorious Service Medal, The Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Army Expeditionary Medal, The Southeast Asia Service Medal, The Vietnam Service Medal (ROV), The Army Overseas Medal, and the National Defense Medal.
After his career in the Army he worked as a Sales Manager for Mustang Industrial & Briggs Equipment for 24 Years. He finally found love with Emily Renee Swearingen and they were married on May 12th 2002 in Montgomery County, Texas. After they were married, they became very involved in wildlife rehabilitation and worked closely with the State Game Wardens.
Glenn is preceded in death by his Wife Emily, his Parents Perry and Ima, and a Brother Jimmy.
Glenn is survived by a Brother Melvin Jayroe and his wife Beverly of Canyon, Texas, and Daughter Brenda Carol Jayroe and Son in Law John H. Davis and his Grand-dog Dysa of Willis, Texas and his four fur-kids that he rescued, Reba a Redbone coonhound, Twiggy an American Foxhound, Tessie who is a 50% American Foxhound and the rest sneaky neighbor dog and last but not least, Mr. Smokey a Chinchilla.
Pallbearers will be John Davis, Wayne Brunner Jr. Rick Wyatt, and members of the VFW Honor Guard.
Memorials may be given to The Lewy Body Dementia Association, or the Alzheimer’s Association in Glenn Jayroe’s name.
