Walter Greer Haynes

GREER HAYNES, 60, formerly of Trenton, TN, and residing in Germantown, TN, passed on November 1, 2011. He was born on November the 20th, 1950 in Humboldt, TN to Dr. Thomas Wilson Haynes and Margaret Ann Drummond Haynes. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Cynthia Peddy Haynes of 32 years; his two sons, Nathan Greer Haynes and Derek Allen Haynes; his brother, Charles Thomas Haynes (Memphis, TN); his father, Thomas Wilson Haynes (Jackson, TN). He was a graduate of Sewanee Military Academy in 1969, attended 3 years at Tennessee-Martin, and graduated from Ole Miss Pharmacy School in 1974. He worked as a relief pharmacist in West Tennessee until 1979 when he joined Lederle Laboratories. In 1989, he moved on to a startup pharmaceutical company called Amgen. He and his wife were relocated to Raytown, MO where they stayed in the Kansas City area for 15 years. In 1994, he and his family were relocated to Memphis, TN, where he resided until his death. Upon retiring in 2000, he became more active in his children's extracurricular activities, attending all of their games that they played. He spent time vacationing with his family and later became involved with the Porsche Club where he was the president of the club in 2004 and 2005 and was the current president (2011). He attended every major American sporting event and was an avid sports enthusiast. He was a performance driving instructor and participated with SCCA racing and PCA racing and was most proud of a podium finish at Sebring in early 2011. His professional accolades include top sales representative in several divisions at Lederle Labs; President's Award at Amgen (2 times); and was most proud in aiding in the writing of the package inserts for Amgen biotech products. He was a member of the Church of the Holy Apostles and for the last few years had been a part of the evening Bluegrass Mass services at the church. He leaves behind many friends who have been touched by his light-hearted spirit, his grace and his love. He will be sorely missed. Services will be held as a gathering visitation at the Church of the Holy Apostles at 1380 Wolf River Blvd. at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, November the 5th, with a Celebration of Life service following at 1 p.m.
