Clyde Samuel Starnes, 62, passed away Jan. 4, 2012, at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center after a brief illness.
Born in La Grange, Ga., he moved to Fort Walton Beach in 1957. He graduated from Choctawhatchee High School and served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. Sam was known for his big heart and willingness to help others. He loved art and fishing and could often be found casting from the Shalimar Bridge.
He is survived by his mother, Rachel Robinson; a brother, Bill and Caralee Starnes of Tallahassee, Fla.; a sister, Gayle Sorensen of Fort Walton Beach, and David Sorensen of Panama City, Fla.; six nieces; two nephews; and six great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Starnes; and long-time friend, Jena Morris.
A brief graveside service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 14, at 11 a.m. at Beal Memorial Cemetery, Fort Walton Beach. All who knew Sammy are welcome and invited.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to McLaughlin Mortuary, 17 Chestnut Ave. S.E., Fort Walton Beach. Expressions of sympathy may be viewed or expressed at www.mclaughlinmortuary.com
