Sterling Rueben Vold

(7 Apr 1914 - 30 Jul 1970)

Sterling Vold was a career Army officer, husband and father. Raised in Iowa, he was known to pick a bushel of corn faster than any of his brothers. He loved to play and watch football. He had a winning smile, beautiful, blue eyes, and never met a stranger.
He was a patriotic American and fought throughout World War II in the Pacific Theater and he participated in the defense of South Korea from North Korea and post war rebuilding. He was shot in the knee and caught malaria which continued to plague him throughout his life.
He received the American Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Overseas Service Bar, Overseas Service Ribbon, including metal pendant. National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal for Korea, Korean Service Medal, Army of Occupation Medal during his career.
Dad had a strong faith in God, love of his family and pride in his heritage. He was a kind and warm person to know and a successful man who contributed to his country, family and the lives of his children. He will be missed always.
