Mildred Evelyn "Billie" Wilson

WEST- Mildred (Billie) West, of Whittier. Born in Lompoc, California in 1922, passed away April 6, 2011 at the University of California Medical Center at Irvine. She was a businesswoman in Whittier and owned the Whittier Ballroom, the Whittier Swim School, and Cy's Rocket Room. She was living at Merrill Gardens at the time of her death. Billie was a natural athlete in her youth and played on a women's baseball team during World War II. She was a gymnast and runner, and for the last few years was the reigning pool champion at Merrill Gardens. Billie was well known for her sense of humor. Billie was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Mahlon Wilson, and two of her children, Linda Berryman and Dennis Green. She is survived by three children, their spouses, and a son-in-law: Evie Hand and her husband, Bill of Madison, MS, Mike Cleugh and his wife Margi of San Juan Capistrano, Bobbie Heacock of Castlerock, WA, and Billie's son-in-law, Ernie Berryman of Sacramento, CA. She leaves twelve grand-children and twenty-two great-grand-children, all of whom have colorful memories of their grandmother. She also leaves many good friends in the Whittier area. A memorial service is planned for July 9 in Newport, California.
