Michele D. "Miki" Boner
(12 Sep 1951 - 8 Mar 2019)
Michele “Miki” D. Kaniewski, 67, of Sherwood, passed away at home on Friday, March 8, 2019 surrounded by her family, under the care of Oaklawn Hospice.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Coldwater. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Union City. Visitation will be at Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation in Union City, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Monday, March 11, 2019.
Miki was born on September 12, 1951 in Battle Creek, MI to Heber and Eleanor (Swartz) Boner. She was the first of five children and a proud big sister to Sandae (Dennis) Conroy of Salt Lake City, UT, Marta (Patrick) Onofrio of Union City, Maria Wolf of Battle Creek and Matthew (Debbi) of Marshall. On November 2, 1974 at Wakeshma Community Church, Miki married the love of her life, Dennis “Denny” Kaniewski, who survives. They made their home in Sherwood and became the proud parents to five children of their own: Denee Michele (James) Tallent of Battle Creek, Tahmee (Branden) Kaniewski-Hand of Union City, Noah (Donna) Kaniewski of Marshall, Chase (Traci) Kaniewski of Union City and Carson (Savanna) Kaniewski of Wakarusa, IN.
Following graduation from Lakeview High School in 1969, Miki went on to earn an associate’s degree at Kellogg Community College. She was employed by Michigan Bell and Clark Equipment, where she met her future husband. Later she served as librarian at the former Sherwood Elementary School and the librarian at Union City Middle School, retiring in 2017 after 20 years of service. Miki was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Coldwater, where she volunteered as a Relief Society counselor, taught Sunday School and served as Young Women’s President.
Miki was most proud of being a mother. Miki was a fierce and loving mother who always wanted the best for her children and loved them with everything she had. She and Denny became proud grandparents to 20 grandchildren who will miss her. Julia, Sam, Hope, Parker, Amelia, Oliver, Ian, Carter, Walker, Justyn, Ella, Quinn, Lydia, Conner, Rylee, Aden, Millie, Emma, Lillianna and Owen will remember how much Grami loved them and was so proud of them. Michele left behind many friends and family, but we know she will be met in heaven by her father, Heber, and in-laws, Thomas and Mildred.
In addition to her husband, Denny, Miki is survived by her five children and their spouses; her 20 grandchildren; her four siblings and their spouses; and her mother, Eleanor Boner. She was preceded in death by her father.
