Individual Details

William Henry Harrison Spradlin

(23 Jul 1841 - 30 Oct 1909)

William was a son of Edward Spradling and Eliza Greer. He married (1) Lucinda B. Matthews in 1860, most likely in Hardin County, Kentucky, and after she died he married (2) Arminta Bertram 6 March 1873 in Barren County, Kentucky.

William and Lucy had five children:

Laura (1862)
James Edward (1863)
Sarah Elizabeth (1864)
William Granville (1867)
Frances M. (1869)

William and Arminta had seven children:

Perry D. (1874)
Moses H. (1875)
Lura E. (1877)
John Samuel (1878)
Andrew Jackson (1881)
Marion E. (1882)
Eliza H. (1884)

William's parents migrated to Kentucky when he was quite young, so he grew up mainly in Barren County, Kentucky, and there he married Lucy Matthews. He farmed and occasionally worked as a carpenter. As was common to the day, when Lucy died, leaving him with four small children, he wasted no time finding a new wife. It wasn't too long after that his more adventurous young sons persuaded him to move west, first to Howell County in south central Missouri about 1881, and then across the state line into Baxter County, Arkansas about 1894. And there he died 15 years later and was buried in what must have been a beautiful little cemetery a hundred years ago, but is now a ruin. RIP, William Henry Harrison Spradling.
