Grady Glenn Marney

On October 6, 2014, Grady Glenn Marney, born on February 24, 1937, passed from this life to join his loved ones in heaven. Upon his passing, Grady was surrounded by family. Grady was a cherished brother, father, grandfather, companion, cousin, uncle, and friend. Grady grew up in the Lamont and Bakersfield areas. Some of his best memories consisted of spending time in the work camps and on the farm with his brothers, sister, and cousins. After graduating from Bakersfield High School, Grady moved to Riverside, California, where he became a Journeyman Carpenter. In 1995, Grady retired from the Los Angeles Sanitation District, where he worked as a carpenter for nearly 30 years. After retirement, he moved to Helendale, California, where he resided in a community called Silverlakes until the day of his death.
Grady was unique because he loved the Old West. In his earlier days, he was a true quick draw. The skill and speed of his ability to draw a pistol resulted in ribbons and trophies from his participation in quick draw and trick shooting contests. He also used his talent to entertain in Western shows. Attending gun and knife shows were also among his favorite things to do. His collections of old Western movies, guns, knives, and Western attire were quite impressive to those who loved the Old West as he did. As a hobby, he became a licensed Gunsmith, who repaired guns under warranty by the manufacturers.
Swap meets and yard sales were also among his interests. From watches to knives, every weekend Grady was on the lookout for collectibles. He was a regular at every yard sale held in his community. Finding a knife for a dollar and or a pocket watch for fifty cents would make his day. He also enjoyed traveling, especially visiting places that were associated with Civil War history and or the Old West. Back in the day, he was quite the hunter too, his highlight being his African Safari trip. Other talents and hobbies that Grady enjoyed included playing guitar, studying history, and fishing a little now and then.
Grady was survived by a loving companion, two brothers, one sister, three daughters, five grandsons, two granddaughters, ten great- grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
He will always be remembered as a man who purely loved his family and friends. His sister stated, "Grady was always a true gentleman. He was cherished by all who knew him."
The viewing and funeral service will be held at Hillcrest Mortuary. The viewing will be October 13th from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Funeral will be October 14th at 10 a.m.
