Mrs. Henry Jones Dies Quietly in Iowa Park Home Monday
Mrs. Henry Jones, 54, was found dead at her home Monday night about 10:00. Her husband, who is city Marshal and Deputy Sheriff, was confined to bed because of Illness and was awakened by the ringing of the telephone. When his wife failed to answer, he went to investigate and found her slumped in a chair where she had been reading the evening paper before retiring.
Mrs. Jones moved to Iowa Park from Walters, Okla., in 1948. She was a member of the local school faculty this year, where she taught the second grade. She taught in the Eagle Bend School for two years.
Mrs. Jones, the former Miss Ira Lee Couch, was born at Bridgeport, Dec. 25, 1896. She moved to Oklahoma at an early age and was a graduate of Lawton High School. She attended Central State Teachers college at Edmond, where she received the B.A. degree with a major in elementary education.
Since moving to Iowa Park she has done graduate work at Midwestern University. She had taught school for 32 years, for the most part in Oklahoma schools. She was married to George Henry Jones at Lawton in 1916.
Mrs. Jones was a member of the Methodist Church and served as teacher in the adult department. She was also a member of the Eastern Star and the Royal Neighbors. Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist church in Walters on Wednesday afternoon with Rev. Kirk Beard of Iowa Park officiating. J. A. Tanner Funeral Home was in charge of local arrangements.
Survivors include Mr. Jones; one son John Henry Jones of Elk City, Okla.; two grandsons; her parents Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Couch, Marlow, Okla.; three brothers J. T. couch of Marlow; J. R. Couch of Tranquility, Calif.; L. T. couch of Seminole, Okla.; one sister Mrs. Ella Mae Keeling of Marlow.
