Oscar Pickering

Graveside service for Oscar Pickering, 62, Lawton, will be at 2 p.m. today at Highland Cemetery with Chaplain Jim McGuire officiating.
Mr. Pickering died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003, in Lawton.
Arrangements are by Whinery-Huddleston Funeral Service.
He was born Jan. 5, 1941, in Amarillo, Texas, to Iva Lee Moreau and J. L. Robert Pickering. He moved to Lawton when he was young and attended Lawton schools. He was the first four-sport letterman in the class of 1959. He played Triple-A ball and was signed by the Yankees organization and went to Pasadena, Calif., with Cameron for the Junior Rose Bowl. He later played with and coached the Lawton Pepsi's semi-pro baseball team. He dug swimming pools and worked for Pickering Demoliton and Pickering's Antiques. He married Ricca Hardin on June 7, 1981, in Claremore.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; a son, Kurt Pickering, Tulsa; two daughters and sons-in-law: Jill and David Brown, Lawton; and Kelly and Rod Gilbert, Duncan; a sister, Jeannie Pickering, California; eight grandchildren: Taylor, Samantha and Alex Towne; Lane Gilbert; and Austin, Audrey, Wesley and Shelby Brown; four stepchildren: Randy, Shellie, Margaret and Calvin; and a friend, John Towne.
He was preceded in death by his parents. (The Lawton Constitution, January 14, 2003).
