Nadine Reh

(27 Aug 1937 - 12 Sep 2015)

Nadine Reh Collins, age 78, of Socorro, NM passed into the care of our Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday, September 12, 2015 in Albuquerque, NM. Her loving daughter Norene Boykin held her right hand and grandson Samuel Reh Boykin held her left hand right up to the point where Jesus took it and lead her into heaven. Nadine was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and mother-in-law who also dotted on every young Socorro Warrior that her two grandsons introduced her to. Nadine loved attending Warrior football games and was so proud of having her grandsons be Warriors, as she was a Socorro High graduate in 1955, graduating as Valedictorian.
Nadine was born at the family homestead on a farm in Eastern Kansas on August 27, 1955, where she graduated 8th grade from a one-room school house. Her mother and father, Rex D. and Vera (Bay) Reh, moved to Socorro on her 14th birthday. After high school graduation, Nadine met and married Dennis O'Neill who was attending NM Tech. Daughter Diane was born in 1958 and daughter, Norene was born in 1959. After moving to Rolla, MO for Dennis to obtain a MS degree, Nadine and Dennis moved to the Denver area. Nadine love being a stay at home mom spending as much time as possible with her girls, as well as taking trips to the Colorado High Country near Leadville.
In 1978, Nadine moved to Farmington to be near her parents after a separation with Dennis. Nadine fell in love with a strapping gas field-jack of trades man named Harvey Collins. Harvey was Nadine's true soul mate and best friend. A date was a loaded gravel truck, a picnic lunch, and a view of the Ship Rock or Navajo Lake. They were married and had a wonderfully full marriage until a gas field accident took Harvey's life in January of 1988. Nadine immersed herself in her work for the Gas Company of New Mexico, moving up from an inventory clerk to senior buyer for all kinds of critical purchases.
Eventually, Nadine decided that it was time to move to Socorro where daughter Norene and her husband Doug and grandsons, Daniel and Samuel were living. She had a home built up on the hill by the Socorro High School so that she could be a "lunch break, pit stop, class skipping hideout" for her two grandsons and their numerous friends. She always had a snack ready for anyone and everyone, whether it was a before school glass of juice, a sandwich at lunch, a cookie and milk before football, baseball or track practice, or hot chocolate after football games.
Nadine loved to just "piddle" around her house at her own pace. Her potted flowers were the envy of everyone, especially her son-in-law. Nadine loved to read books about New Mexico history, would take on the task of learning any subject of interest to her family, made outstanding posolle on New Year's Day, and the best chocolate brownies in the valley. She was always up for a happy hour trip to Sonic. Turquoise jewelry, Native American pottery and Kokapelli dancers were a particular interest.
Nadine will be sorely missed. Nadine is survived by her daughter, Norene Boykin, who was her best friend, son-in-law, Doug Boykin of Socorro, grandson, Daniel Boykin, serving in the United States Army, grandson, Samuel Boykin, attending NM Tech, grandson, Joshua O'Neill of Twin Lakes, CO working at the Climax Mine and her beloved cousins. Nadine is preceded in death by her parents, Rex and Vera (Bay) Reh and daughter, Diane O'Neill.
A graveside ceremony will be held at 1:00 p.m. on September 19, 2015 at the Flora Vista Cemetery in Flora Vista, NM with Pastor Phillip Smith of the First Baptist Church in Socorro officiating. Flowers can be sent to the Daniels Family Funeral Services-Socorro Chapel in Socorro, NM.
