STEVEN L. "STEVE" PARKER
January 24, 1941 ~ April 18, 2018
Steven L. “Steve” Parker, 77, of Tecumseh, Oklahoma passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2018 in Norman, Oklahoma.
Steve was born at the family home in Harris, Oklahoma, a small community outside of Idabel on January 24, 1941 to Sam and Bert Parker.
He was raised in Idabel and graduated with the class of 1959 from Gray High School in Idabel, Oklahoma. While in high school Steve excelled in football, basketball, baseball and track. After high school Steve attended Eastern University and Northeastern University until he decided to go after his dream of becoming an attorney. In 1978 he achieved that dream by earning his Law degree from the University of Oklahoma.
He married Shirley Lee Dawley on January 25, 1963 in Stigler, Oklahoma. After marriage they lived in Wilburton, Tahlequah and Norman until moving to Tecumseh. Steve established his private law practice in Tecumseh where he dedicated his life to practicing law for 39 years. He was the very first District Judge for the Choctaw Tribe and also served as a BIA Judge for many years, and was also an accomplished published author.
Steve was a very dedicated member of the Broadway United Methodist Church in Tecumseh for many years, a proud member of The Tecumseh Rotary Club and a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association.
He loved riding horses, playing tennis, racquet ball and basketball; but most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren; they were the focal point of his life.
He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Tamara Parker; his parents Sam and Bert Parker; and 3 brothers, Jesse Parker, James Parker and Johnny Parker.
Those left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 55 years, Shirley Parker of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Shantel and Michael Tritthart of McKinney, TX; son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Kim Parker of Tecumseh, OK; 6 grandchildren, Jake, Ava, Blakelee, Taylor, Alyssa and Colby; 2 great-grandchildren, Elias and Dominic; 2 brothers and 2 sisters-in-law, Larry and Helen Parker of Idabel, OK and Dennis and Merry Parker of Idabel, OK; and numerous extended family and many, many friends.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers or plants that memorial donations be made to the Broadway United Methodist Church in Tecumseh, Oklahoma.
Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, April 20, 2018 and continue through service time. Service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Will Bentley officiating.
