Individual Details

Beatrice Lee Davis

(10 Dec 1913 - 1 May 2007)

Beatrice Davis Stiles completed her earthly journey on May 1, 2007, at Conroe, Texas.
Beatrice was the first born of Marvin L. Davis and Betty Pilcher Davis on Dec. 10, 1913, in Yalobusha County, Miss. She was a Baptist.
She lived in Idabel, Oklahoma, all her adult life until May 1975 when she and her husband moved to Conroe, Texas, to live with their daughter and son-in-law.
Beatrice worked for Johnny Woodrum's Grocert Store, Butler's Grocery Store and Wright's Grocery Store at different times in her life after moving from the farm southeast of Idabel.
Beatrice made her family her one priority all of her life. She was one of the last people who traveled by covered wagon. She, her Mom, her stepdad, J.L. Warren, and her sisters, Mary Anne and Marie, and grandfather, G.W. Pilcher, traveled from Yellow Jacket, Ariz., to Ft. Smith, Ark., in a horse drawn wagon in 1923. The horses were Mike and Monte.
She grew up knowing what was edible in the forest and what was not and was always interested in Indian culture and the Old West. She was an avid reader and had all of Zane Grey's books and all of Louis L'Mour's books - and she read them many times over. She read everything Jean Auel and Frank Yerby wrote and read the complete set of The Left Behind Series of books by LeHaye and Jenkins. The last few years of her life her eye sight failed and she read with a hand held magnifying glass.
She could work along side her husband in the field everyday and go home at night and cook dinner. The men got to rest - she didn't. On Saturdays her husband and his brothers would go into town and leave her home to do the washing, ironing and taking care of her only child, alone. Beatrice was living proof that hard work won't kill you.
Beatrice married James D. Stiles on Feb. 19, 1934, just 5 days after his parents were gunned down on the farm south of Idabel. He preceded her in death in February of 1994, in Conroe, Texas, after 60 years of marriage.
Beatrice was also preceded in death by her parents, her sister Mary Anne Davis McCain, Espanola, N.M., and her brothers, Gordon L. Warren, Idabel, and Watson L. Warren, Klamath Falls, Ore.
She is survived by her daughter, Martha Stiles Kilman and husband Don of Conroe, Texas; grandsons, Duane Kilman of Spring, Texas, and David Kilman of Wilmington, Del.; one great granddaughter, Krystin Kilman of Columbia, S.C.; sister, Marie Marque of Eugene, Ore.; two sisters-in-law, Velva Warren of Norman, Ark., and Lois Warren of Klamath Falls, Ore.; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Her family would like to thank Dr. Glen Berwick for his advice and the compassion he showed Beatrice, who was his decades long patient. We also want to thank Crystal Drummond for her untiring concern for Beatrice and the many hours she spent with her in the last few months of her life.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 4, 2007, at 10 a.m. in Cashner Colonial Chapel.
Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, May 3, 2007, from 5 to 8 p.m. in Cashner Funeral Home. Burial will be in Garden Park Cemetery, Conroe, Texas.

Note: Her Husband's parents, Dan S. Stiles ( Memorial #71661599) and Anna Martha (Bivins) Stiles (Memorial #71661593) were shot & killed as they worked out in the field. Some of their children witnessed the parents being killed.
