Suzanne Ellen Bisbee
(7 Oct 1938 - 24 Jun 2014)
Suzanne Ellen Bisbee MacDonald
October 7, 1938 - June 24, 2014
uzanne Ellen (Bisbee) MacDonald, 75, of Bloomfield, passed away June 24, 2014.
Suzanne was born in Alma, Michigan on October 7, 1938 to Guinevere Ellen and Crandal Wise Bisbee. In 1961, she earned her degree from the University of Michigan and, later that year, married fellow wolverine Bruce Glenn MacDonald.
An avid garden, flower and landscape aficionado, Suzanne created her own lush gardens and inspired others to develop lovely gardens of their own. Her outstanding floral arrangements were a tribute to her creativity and style. Among the highlights of her gardening accomplishments, in 1977 she received a homeowner's beautification award from the City of Birmingham and in 1987, while living in New York City, earned a certification in Floral Design from the New York Botanical Garden. Suzanne was also active in the community volunteering her time and talents with various organizations including the Junior League, Camp Gordonwood and St. James Episcopal Church.
In recent years, one of her greatest passions has been anything concerning her five 'grand-girls.' Whether watching a cross-country or swim meet, soccer game or color guard, arranging group hair cuts or tennis lessons, or making pancakes after an early morning wake-boarding session at the lake, Suzanne adored her girls both as a group and individually.
Suzanne is survived by her husband, Bruce, her children Rebecca Ellen (David Cryberg), Glenn Crandal (Mary Beth) and George Frederick (Cheryl), and her grand-girls Rachel Ellen Cryberg, Grace Karen and Paige Suzanne, and Sarah Elise and Lauren Bisbee MacDonald, her sister Melissa Orme (Paul), her three daughters and their families, as well as a wealth of friends and family, all of whom will feel her loss acutely.
Family will receive friends Friday 2-7p.m. at A.J. Desmond & Sons (Vasu, Rodgers & Connell Chapel), 32515 Woodward (btwn 13-14 Mile), 248-549-0500. Memorial service Saturday, 1p.m. at St. James Episcopal Church, 355 W. Maple Rd., Birmingham.
Suzanne will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington DC.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. James Episcopal Church, (www.stjamesbirmingham.org) where she and Bruce have been members for more than 45 years or
