Individual Details
Massey Akin
(1817 - 1892)
I can find no record of birth, marriage, death, or burial for Massey Aikin. FamilySearch Family Tree indicates that Massey is a daughter of William Colin Aikin [LYLM-C9Q] and Rebecca McKinney [LTFF-2LP] and that she was first married to John C. Byers [K42T-86D] and second married to a Mr. Phillips [KHZ3-8N7]. There are no sources for John C. Byers. The only source for Mr. Phillips is the death record of Annie Bohon, a daughter of Mr. Phillips and Massy Aikin, who died 10 Jul 1918 in Texarkana, Bowie County, Texas. The only sources that I have found for Massey Aikin are from two U.S. census records of Bowie County, Texas. In 1860 Massey Aikin is listed as M. Phillips, age 42, from Kentucky, with no husband but with five daughters: M. E. Byers 18 Kentucky, N. A. Byers 15 Texas, Martha E. Byers 12 Texas, L. L. Byers 8 Texas, S. A. Phillips 3 Texas. In 1870 Massey Aikin is listed as Massey Phillips 53 Kentucky, with evidently the same five daughters, though all now with the surname Phillips and said to be born in Texas: Mary E. 26, Nancy A. 22, Martha E. 21, Laura L. 16, and Lucinda A. Phillips 13. It is clear from the names and dates at Find a Grave Memorial 5360210 that Lucinda (Ann) Phillips is Annie Bohon. Lucinda’s death certificate names her mother as Massy Aikin. From these facts we can conclude that Massey’s other daughters can be identified as follows: M. E. Byers is Mary E. Phillips, N. A. Byers is Nancy A. Phillips, Martha E. Byers is Martha E. Phillips, L. L. Byers is Laura L. Phillips, and S. A. Phillips is Lucinda A. Phillips who married Lafayette Bohon.
