Death of Mr. A. S. Davis
Mr. A. S. Davis, who was reared in Chambers county, and who for about thirty-six years has been living in Texas, died at the home of his brother-in-law, Mr. C. E. Finney, in the Chapel Hill community, Saturday night May 8th at half past seven o'clock.
Having reared his family, four sons and six daughters, he had returned to his boyhood's home to spend the balance of his days.
Mr. Davis was a splendid citizen, a worthy father, a faithful husband, a loyal and true friend and a devout christian. He was a member of the Missionary Baptist church and was a deacon in that church in Texas where he lived.
He leaves one brother, Mr. Henry Davis, and two sisters, Mrs. C. E. Finney and Mrs. H. M. Wilson and two sons and four daughters in Birmingham, one son in Denver, Col., one son and one daughter in Vicksburg, Miss., and one daughter in Texas, to mourn his departure. But they mourn not as those who have no hope, for knowing his faithfulness to God and his fellow man they know that they shall see him again in a land that is fairer than day.
His two sons and four daughters came over from Birmingham to attend the funeral, which was conducted by Rev. H. R. Arnold at the Rock Spring church, after which he was laid away in the Rock Spring cemetery to await the resurrection of the just.
