Rachel Hinson Port

(1 Mar 1732 - Oct 1823)

Marriage date of Benjamin Davis and Rachel Port is 21 Feb 1748
Birth date 01 Mar 1732 Prince Frederick Par, South Carolina
Birth source: Sons of American Revolution
Death date Oct 1823 Little Pee Dee Landing, South Carolina
Death source: Sons of American Revolution & family data collection

Solid evidence that she is not the daughter of Thomas Port is presented in vol. XXXV, no. 3, p. 1, 3-9 of the Pee Dee Queue, the newsletter of the Pee Dee chapter of the South Carolina Genealogical Society. The article "Port and Davis Families - Fables or Facts?" by Jo Church Dickerson presents convincing evidence based on a variety of probate and other court documents. Thomas Port's unproven will makes the children of his brothers and sisters his legatees and Francis Port's will mentions the children of Rachel and Benjamin Davis.

Based on the conclusion that Rachel and Benjamin Davis' children were his nieces and nephews, Thomas Port would be Rachel's brother which would make Joseph Port her father. To my knowledge, Joseph Port's will has not been located.
