Edward Herbert Ridsdale
(22 Sep 1853 - 28 Apr 1930)
Edward H. Ridsdale was born at Wauseon, Ohio Sept. 22, 1853 and departed this life at Arlington April 28, 1930, aged 76 years, 7 months and 6 days. In early life he moved to Castile, N. Y. where he resided for several years and where he was married to Sarah A. Buttrick. To this union a daughter was born, who died in infancy. An adopted daughter, Mrs. Ed Windell of Pueblo, Colo., who came into the family when three years of age, arrived for the funeral services. A brother and three sisters were unable to be present. In 1892 the family located at Cedar Bluffs and it was there that Mrs. Ridsdale passed away. In March, 192?, Mr. Ridsdale was married to Mrs. Estella Barothy of this place, who survives him. For several years Mr. Ridsdale engaged in business in Cedar Bluffs and for fifteen years was the faithful and efficient janitor of the schools there. About four years ago Mr. and Mrs. Ridsdale moved here where he gained many friends who mourn his death. Brief services were held from the home on Thursday morning at 9:30, in charge of his pastor, Dr. R. C. Swisher of the Congregational church, assisted by Rev. A. J. Edgar of the M. E. church. At 11 o'clock services were held in the Presbyterian church at Cedar Bluffs in charge of Rev. Miller. Interment was made in the Maple Grove cemetery. The services, both at Arlington and Cedar Bluffs, were largely attended and many beautiful floral offerings were extended.
#2 May 1, 1930 - The Enterprise, Blair, Nebraska
This community was shocked on Monday to learn that E. H. Ridsdale, 72, highly respected resident of this place, had committed suicide by hanging himself. He had been in ill health for a number of years and lately had become quite despondent. The deceased moved here about three years ago from Cedar Bluffs and had occupied his time as janitor of the Congregational church. He was a resident of Cedar Bluffs for a number of years before moving here. Definite funeral arrangements are not completed, but it is probable that a brief service will be held here at the home on Thursday morning and the body will then be taken to Cedar Bluffs for the regular funeral and interment. He is survived by his wife.
