Melvin Royce Franklin, 86, a loving husband, father and dear friend to all, passed away Monday, Nov. 14, 2016. Funeral: 2 p.m. Thursday in Lucas Funeral Home Chapel. Interment: Bourland Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lucas Funeral Home in Keller. Royce was born March 28, 1930, in Dozier to the late Major Lee and Mildred Inez Franklin. He married Loyce Stalcup on May 1, 1948, and together they had four children. Royce was a machinist and retired from Tri Cities Tool in Dallas in 1995. He was a well-known guitar player and musician and lifelong member of Texas Old Time Fiddle Association and was inducted in the Texas Hall of Fame in Hallettsville. Royce was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Caryn Franklin Martin; and brothers, Verlan and Dub Franklin. Survivors: Wife of 68 years, Loyce Franklin of Keller; children, Bettye Franklin of Henrietta, David Franklin of Waxahachie and Paul Franklin of Burleson; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
