George Riley Buckner Jr.

G. R. Buckner, 88, died Thursday, July 10, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Villandry of Coweta, Okla., and Red Duke of Allison officiating. Burial will be in Dozier Cemetery by Wright Funeral Directors.
Mr. Buckner was born in Wise County and had lived in the Shamrock area since 1928. He was a farmer and a rancher. He married Callie Mae Davis in 1930 at Texola, Okla.
Mr. Buckner was a member of Abra Baptist Church in the Abra community. Survivors include his wife; a son, Thomas Buckner of Rio Rancho, N.M.; two daughters, Kaye Ray of Borger and Roselle Taylor of Tucson, Ariz.; six grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

G. R. Buckner is my father. His legal name was G. R. Buckner. He hated the name George Riley Buckner, Jr. and in 1955 I was with him when he obtained a birth certificate with the name of G. R. Buckner.
