Mary Elizabeth Hayes

(23 May 1808 - 18 Aug 1850)

Mary Elizabeth Hayes was born May 23, 1808 in Virginia, the fourth known child of William and Elizabeth Hayes. As a young woman, she traveled with her father to Breckenridge Co., KY, where she met William Henry Orenduff. They were married on August 14, 1836 when Mary Elizabeth was twenty-eight years old. William was a planter who followed the western migrations from Kentucky to Collin Co., TX in 1855. He settled and began farming at the site of present day McKinney, TX, which developed into a stage stop. Mary Elizabeth made the move with her husband and four children. She did not live to see much of Texas, however, for she contracted typhoid fever and died on August 8, 1859, only a few years after arriving in Collin Co. William survived her thirty-three years and is buried on the old homestead in Collin Co., TX.

William and Mary had four children: Cora, Jesse William, John & Robert Huston.
