DOTHAN. . .Reba Wheeler Finney, a resident of Dothan, died Sunday morning, July 19, 2009, in Westside Terrace in Dothan. She was 86.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P. M. Tuesday, July 21, 2009, in the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery, north of Lafayette in Chambers County, Alabama with Reverend Dan Bailey officiating. Holman-Headland Mortuary, Headland, Alabama is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P. M. Monday at the residence of Kay and Tom Roney, 900 North Cherokee Avenue in Dothan. The family will also receive friends following the graveside services in the sanctuary of the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wallace Community College Foundation, 5565 Montgomery Highway, Dothan, AL. 36303 or to the First United Methodist Church, 1380 West Main Street, Dothan, AL. 36301.
Mrs. Finney was born and reared in the Five Points community in Chambers County, Alabama, daughter of the late Jefferson Brooks Wheeler and Lula Irene Higgins Wheeler. She was a graduate of Five Points High School. A homemaker and school secretary, Mrs. Finney served several years as a secretary in the Pasadena Independent School District in Texas and later at Sidney Lanier High School in Montgomery. She retired in 1983 to care for her mother and to enjoy time with her sisters. Mrs. Finney moved to Dothan in 2000 to be near her daughter. She especially enjoyed her years at The Terrace At Grove Park where she made and enjoyed dear friends. Mrs. Finney was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Dothan. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Robert Finney, three sisters and two brothers.
Surviving relatives include her daughter, Kay Finney Roney and husband, Tom Roney, Dothan; her son, William Robert Finney, Jr. and wife, Connie Finney, Madison, WI.; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Roney Castro and husband, Afonso Castro, Tampa, FL.; Andrew Roney and wife, Tara Roney, Columbus, GA; Bob Finney and Paul Finney both of Madison, WI; five great-grandchildren, Alexander Castro, Christian Castro, Brooks Roney, Anna Kate Roney and Ashley Finney.
