Individual Details
Eugene Earl Perry
(15 Jan 1943 - 5 Sep 2013)
1963, June - Ima Jean and Eugene Perry marry. Eugene gets a job with General Motors in Arlington, Texas where he remains until his retirement about 1994. For the next thirty years Ima Jean is wife and Mom to her small family. She tots them back and forth to school and devotes many hours to helping them in their school activities. For awhile she cleans houses for some extra cash.
1964- Glenn is born.
1968 - Tammy is born. Both kids grow up in and graduate from Grand Prairie High School. Glenn was quite involved in a rodeo club in high school and was known for his bull doggin.
about 1978- Glenn and Tammy both get married and start to raise a family of their own. Glenn gets involved with truck driving for Coors beer company. Eventually he goes off to form his own trucking company. Tammy worked for the City of Grand Prairie and her husband Robert learns about being a diesel mechanic.
Tammy and Robert McCoy have two children, Justin McCoy and Haley McCoy.
Glenn and Lori Perry presently have four children, Sadie, Loren,
1987 - Ima Jean and Eugene build a log cabin near Lake Fork getting ready for retirement. Ima Jean was not particularly fond of the idea of being so far away from her kids who remained in Grand Prairie near their grand parents on both sides.
1989- Ima Jean's father, Chris Christenson, dies.
1994 - Eugene retires from General Motors and takes up a new career as a long distance truck driver. He works for several firms and travels all over the United States. In the meanwhile Ima Jean makes long and frequent stays with her mother and father. She assisted her mom with the care of her father who had Alzheimer's disease.
Eugene is a devoted grandfather although doing this by long distance much of the time.
2003, Mar - Sept - Ima Jean is treated for intestinal problems that took far too long to diagnose. After almost three months they thought it may be cancer. Treatment is delayed until it was too late to take any successful corrective action. She undergoes chemotherapy for several weeks which made her only weaker and made her loose her hair.
Aug - Her brother, Elroy, and his wife fly into town in the evening and the next morning take Ima Jean to the emergency room. When they deliver Ima Jean to the emergency room at Arlington Memorial on the north side of Arlington by wheelchair Eugene is dragging his leg and walking with a cane. Nurses ask which is being admitted. Ima Jean goes up to intensive care. A day or two later Eugene has to go in for an operation on his back with a pinched nerve by his collapsed spine to South Arlington Hospital. Everyone in the family was going back and forth between the two hospitals for several days.
Ima Jean gets a new doctor in the Arlington Cancer Center who finally identifies the cancer and tries a couple of other drugs but basically tells her that this was a very agressive form of cancer, similar to lung cancer, but centered in the colon. Elroy and Cheryl were very involved with the doctors for the two weeks they were in town but had tried to make sure she received the best possible treatment.
Ima Jean and Eugene come home from the hospital to stay with her mother. Glenn, Tammy and Violet do the bulk of the care for both.
Ima Jean goes shopping on Sept 6, her birthday, at Walmart. She bought something for all the grand kids, her Mom and Eugene.
Sept 9, she tells her son and daughter everything that she wanted them to know because she knew she was dying. She goes into the Arlington Memorial that night.
She goes to the hospice the next day. Saturday, September 13 she dies. Her brother, Elroy, hears about it a France that day. His wife, Cheryl, flys down to Texas to represent the family.
2005 - Eugene moves to Galveston Is, TX. The children still live in the Dallas area.
