Everett John (Blackie) Blackwell, 91, died July 19 in Hamilton. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. July 21 in Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton.
Mr. Blackwell was born in the Hurst Community near Star on Sept. 29, 1913 to early pioneers Boss John Blackwell and Lillian Walton Blackwell.
As a young man while still in school, he went to work as an auto mechanic. He continued to do mechanic work on automobiles, trucks and heavy equipment. He was a successful rancher, service station owner and operator and heavy equipment owner and operator doing a vast amount of stock pond building and other dirt work projects.
He was married to Veda Etheleen Boler in 1934. She preceded him in death on July 11, 1992. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Nell Strickland.
Survivors include two children, James W. Blackwell of Hamilton and Patricia Ann Windham of College Station; seven grandchildren, James E. Blackwell, Phil Blackwell, Peter Blackwell, Mary Jackson, Sandra Windham, Brian Windham and Ray Windham; 11 great-grandchildren, John Blackwell, Jason Blackwell, Cheyenne Blackwell, James A. Blackwell, Tanner Blackwell, David Parrish, Sara Parrish, Carolyn Windham, Preston Windham, Riley Windham, Seth Windham and nephews, C. W. Strickland and Ken Nicholson.
Pallbearers will be Brian Windham, Ray Windham, James E. Blackwell, Peter Blackwell, David Parrish and James Allan Blackwell. Riley Funeral Home
