Funeral services for Mr. James T. Copeland, 77, of Midland have been set for Monday, May 9, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. at the Greenwood Baptist Church, with the Rev. Wayman Swopes officiating. Burial will follow at 1:30 P.M. Monday at the Dawson County Cemetery in Lamesa, Texas.
The family will receive friends from 4-6 P.M. today, May 8, at the Stanton Memorial Funeral Home Chapel.
Mr. Copeland passed away Thursday, May 5, 2005 at the Hospice of Midland Inpatient Unit.
J.T. was born Nov. 13, 1927 in Rusk, Texas to James H. and Carrie Lee Copeland. He was a U.S. Army veteran during World War II.
J.T. served in Salsburg, Austria during the Nuremberg War Crime Trials.
He retired from the Permian Corp. in 1991 after 36 years of service.
He was a faithful member of the Greenwood Baptist Church.
J.T. married Dorothy Oleta Maples in 1946. She passed away in 1976. He then married Velora Dugger on January 21, 1977 in Midland.
He is preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy Jean; his parents, James H. and Carrie Lee Copeland; and two brothers, U.E. Copeland and Homer Lee Copeland.
Survivors include his loving wife, Velora Copeland of Midland; two sons, James Larry Copeland and his wife, Pam, of Varysburg, New York and Jeffrey Brian Dugger and his wife, Nancy, of San Antonio, Texas; two daughters, Sheila DeVore and her husband, Ron, of Stanton and Brenda Gilbert and her husband, Kelly, of Round Rock, Texas; four sisters, Gertrude Brown Simms and Edna Mae Wilcox, both of Rusk, Texas, Frances Bernice Arrington of Jacksonville, Texas and Mary E. Sanders of Andrews, Texas; two brothers, the Rev. Donald Earl Copeland and Herbert Alton Copeland, both of Rusk, Texas; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers will be Fred Moore, John Glidewell, Kelly Gilbert, Ronnie Devore, Trey Nall, E.L. Smith, Derek Rebber and Chance Gilbert.
Funeral services are under the direction of Stanton Memorial Funeral Home & Chapel.
