In Serious Condition From Burns
---Mrs. Russell Thompson, who resides with her husband in a trailer home, near the intersection of US-12 and the Layher road, two miles east of Marshall, was confined to Oaklawn hospital today, in a serious condition from burns received early Sunday morning.
---According to sheriff's department records, Mrs. Thompson received the burns when escaping gas exploded in the trailer home, igniting her night clothing and blowing her through the trailer door into the yard, a distance of about 10 feet.
---Her husband was still in bed, was thrown from the bed by the force of the explosion but not badly injured. He fought his way to the door of the trailer through the fire, and went to the rescue of his wife, tearing the burning clothing from her body.
---Mrs. Thompson was brought to Oaklawn hospital by an Albion ambulance which was called to the scene.
---Sheriff's officers, although unable to question Mrs. Thompson, are of the opinion that she turned on a burner on a gas stove in the trailer, and then accidentally or unconsciously turned on a second burner without lighting it, and when a sufficient amount of the gas escaped, it was ignited by the lighted burner.
---Some of the contents of the trailer were damaged by the fire which followed the explosion. The burning contents were removed before the trailer proper ignited.
