Joseph Frank Kudelka

Joe Frank Kudelka, 81, of Rupert, passed away Saturday, July 27, 2013, at Minidoka Memorial Hospital in Rupert, Idaho.
Joe was born July 23, 1932, in Kilgore, Neb., to Frank A. and Wanda G. Kudelka. They moved to Lincoln, Neb., in 1936, where Joe skipped one year of school and graduated in June of 1949. He joined the Navy on Dec. 27, 1949, and was stationed in Lincoln, Neb., until January of 1958, when he transferred to Olathe, Kan., then to Glenview, Ill., in July of 1964. He was an aircraft engine mechanic and flight plane captain serving on temporary additional duty in Italy, Morocco, Spain, Hawaii and many bases in the United States. He retired from the Navy on Sept. 30, 1968, and headed to California but stopped in Paul for a visit. He decided to stay, moving to Rupert in June of 1969. He worked at Big O Tire recapping till it burned down and then went to work as a carpenter with LaMar Stephenson. His carpentering skills were used for the Methodist Church and the Minidoka County Courthouse.
Joe married Irene Ladman on July 3, 1954, at Council Bluffs, Iowa. She preceded him in death on Sept. 16, 1988. He got together with Betty Rerucha, who was a widow of a longtime Navy buddy. He moved to Everett, Wash., in February of 2001. They were married on Magic Island, Honolulu, Hawaii, in October of 2001. She died Dec. 31, 2001. He returned to Rupert and started scroll sawing.
Joe was a member of the Paul Lodge No. 77 AF and AM, E-dah-ho Chapter 77 Order of the Eastern Star, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite and York Rite Mason, and the American Legion Post 77 Paul Fleet Reserve.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; wives; and sister, Beth. He is survived by his sister, Dona Davis.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 5, at the Rupert United Methodist Church, 605 H St. in Rupert, with Pastor Pam Meese officiating. Burial will follow at the Paul Cemetery under the direction of Joel Heward Hansen Mortuary.
