Marie M. VanOstran died peacefully in her sleep on Friday, April 15, 2011. Marie was the daughter of Elda and Lottie (Milks) Yorks. Marie was a homemaker, an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed crocheting and participating in local arts and crafts shows. She married Charles E. VanOstran on April 15, 1935 in Traverse City, Michigan, before moving to Kalamazoo in September of 1954. Charles preceded Marie in death on August 28, 2009. Marie and Charles were members of Lutheran Church of the Savior in Parchment, Michigan. Marie is survived by five children, Charles VanOstran (Deanna), Dorie DeGraaf (Ed), Lyle VanOstran, Bert VanOstran (Pam) and Ruth Kotler; along with 14 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at Ft. Custer National Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 20, 2011. There will also be a memorial service at Lutheran Church of the Savior, 3616 East G. Avenue in Parchment, on Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at 12:30 p.m., which will be immediately followed by a luncheon to celebrate Marie's life.
