Dr. Nancy Elizabeth Ray White
Nancy Elizabeth Ray White MD, 78, of Dallas, passed away March 31, 2016.
Nancy was born December 26, 1937 in Gatesville, Texas to Avriett Thomas Ray Jr. and Marguerite McMurry Ray. In 1944, she moved to Arizona with her family where her father served as the chief engineer of the US Soil Conservation Service until his death in 1951. Nancy’s mother preceded her in death in 2004.
Nancy graduated valedictorian from high school in Coolidge, Ariz. in 1956. She received a Bachelor of Science from Baylor University in 1960 and her M.D. degree from Southwestern Medical School in 1963. She completed a pediatric internship and residency as well as a cardiology fellowship at Children's Medical Center Dallas.
She initially worked in the Children's Medical Center outpatient clinic, and later worked for the City of Dallas Health Dept. at the M. L. King Center for 12 years.
In 1983 she entered private pediatric practice in Dallas at Preston Center. She was so loved by her patients that they often returned later as adults with their own children for her to care for. Her loving patient care was greatly missed after she retired in 2005.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 55 years, Arlton Herbert White, and her brother, Alfred Thomas Ray and wife, Nan Collins Ray of Kaufman, Texas; niece Amy Ray Parker and husband Mike Parker of Crandall, Texas; and nephew Bryan Ray and wife Andra of Graham, Texas. Also surviving are cousins David Knapton (wife Susan Knapton), Bill Knapton, and Kathy Castles (husband Jack Castles) along with numerous other cousins and second cousins.
Dr. White was buried on April 9 at Dublin Live Oak Cemetery, where her parents were also laid to rest.
A memorial service will be held April 22 at 2:30 p.m. at Highland Park United Methodist Church in Dallas.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, the Arthritis Foundation, the Alzheimer's Association, Children's Medical Center or the charity of your choice.
