Virginia M. Watt, of Springfield, passed away at 5:10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 9, 2013. She was born in Springfield on December 6, 1919, the daughter of Carl J. and Grace Beatty Maurer. Virginia graduated from Springfield High School in 1939, Springfield Comptometer School in 1942, and Springfield Junior College in 1944, earning an Associates of Arts degree. 
She is survived by her husband Robert (Bob) M. Watt, whom she married on November 4, 1944, in Oakland, California. Also surviving are two sons, Dr. Robert Maur Watt (wife, Dr. Terri) of Southern Pines, North Carolina; Dr. Stephen Myers Watt (wife Nona) of Bloomington, Indiana; and daughter Sally Ann Bryan of Rantoul, Illinois. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Robert, Jeremy, Caitlin, and Brendan Watt, and Bret and Todd Bryan. Also surviving is one great-granddaughter, Blake Ashley Bryan.
During World War II, she was employed as a comptometer operator at the Illiopolis Ammunitions Plant and the U.S. Engineers Office in Los Angeles, California. While her husband was attending the University of Illinois Pharmacy School in Chicago, Virginia worked for the Internal Revenue Service there. After Bob completed his degree in 1950, they returned to Springfield where she worked for the IRS, retiring in the early 1980's.
Virginia was a member of Blessed Sacrament parish and then Christ the King parish. She was a member of the Brinkerhoff Association, Phi Kappa Gamma sorority, and the Altar and Rosary Society. 
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 9:00-10:15 a.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Christ the King Parish, 1930 Barberry, Springfield. 
Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Christ the King Parish with Rev. Joseph G. Ring, celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
