Funeral services for Paula Jo Cope Pate, 59, of Lubbock, formerly of Seminole will be held today, Dec. 2, 2006 at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Seminole with Rev. Marv Gregory officiating. Entombment will be held in the M.S. Doss Mausoleum at the Gaines County Cemetery in Seminole, under the direction of Boyer Funeral Home. 
Mrs. Pate passed away Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2006 at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, following at lengthy illness. She was born July 4, 1947 in Lake Jackson, Texas. She lived in Seminole for 20 years, having moved from Houston. She married Joe Bailey Pate, Jr. on July 23, 2004 in Lubbock. 
She is preceded in death by her late husband, C.R. (Charlie) Cope in 2002. She is also preceded in death by one brother, Roy Frank Phillippi,Jr, and her father, Joe Scruggs. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lubbock and had been a member of the First United Methodist Church in Seminole when she lived in Seminole. She was a member of the Seminole Garden Club and very active in her church. She enjoyed cooking, not only for herself but also for her family and her friends of the community. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. 
Survivors include husband, Joe Bailey Pate Jr. of Lubbock; two sons, Parrish Coppin of Austin and James Stewart Rau of Houston; mother, Charlene Scruggs Bethel of Hilltop Lakes, Texas; one brother, Jeff Scruggs of Beaumont; three sisters, Sharla Laughner of Lake Jackson, Sid Perkins of Lake Jackson and Tenna Phillips of Houston; and one grandchild, Ashlyn Jayde Coppin.
