Doris Elaine Marshall

DORIS MARSHALL TIGNER was born in West Columbia, TX on November 24, 1925, the daughter of J.T. and Masle F. Marshall.
She lived in West Columbia for 28 years until her marriage to John Hughes (Tim) Tigner, Jr. of Angleton on Jan. 8, 1954. Mr. Tigner preceded her in death on July 13, 1980, after a marriage of 27 years.
Mrs. Tigner had previously been married to Thomas Wayne Arbuckle of Hamilton, TX in August of 1948. Mr. Arbuckle was killed by a train/car accident in Arcola, TX on February 14, 1952.
She attended West Columbia grade and high school and was a cheerleader for the Roughnecks football team for 3 years and class favorite girl in her junior and senior class.
Upon graduating in 1943, she worked in West Columbia for the Ford Motor Co. & Roy Wright Chevrolet Co. Then on to Old Ocean, TX for the J.F. Pritchards Construction Co. until completion of the plant (Phillips Co.). Upon the completion of the plant, she transferred with the Pritchards to the Dow Chemical Company in the Drafting and Grafting dept. as a draftswoman until she was to become a mother.
In 1966 she was called back to Dow, on contract with Dunbar & Dickson Engineer Co., to work on scrapbooks for Dr. Beutel and Dr. Griswool. She was noted for her detailed ink work. Upon completion of the job she completed her remaining working years with Dunbar & Dickson as their Civil Engineer Draftswoman. Doris had the honor of working with the City of Lake Jackson and had named several of the streets in the new subdivisions. In 1979, she re-entered the work force and pursued a long dream of owning and operating Angleton's only travel agency, Accent on Travel.

She retired in 1990 to be with her close friend, Hollis McCloud before her bout with cancer.
Mrs. Tigner was a Lifetime Member of the Brazoria County Fair Association and a Lifetime member of the 100 Club, Law Officers Association.
She is survived by her son, Bill Tigner, two grandchildren, Tiffany Schlensker and Williams Tigner; one step-son, J. H. "Tim" Tigner III and wife, Leah, with grandchildren, Shannon, Tracy, Rachael, and Drucella Tigner; 2 Great-Grandchildren; Logan & Leighton Schlensker, and numerous nephews, nieces & other family members
She always liked to be a giver and not a receiver, and will be deeply missed.
Funeral services are set for 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 10, 2011 at First United Methodist Church in Angleton. Burial will follow in the Angleton Cemetery
