Citation: The book, "Dodge Family Genealogy 1629-1898", known alternately as, "Genealogy of the Dodge Family of Essex County, Mass 1629-1894", is a scholarly work by Joseph Thompson Dodge, PH. D., published in 1894 in Madison, Wisconsin by the Democrat Printing Company in two volumes. It was reprinted by the Dodge Family Association in one volume of 746 pages. One problem must be noted: In the original two volumes, photo plates were inserted as unnumbered pages. In the reprint, the photo plates were numbered by the printer and that renders the indexes difficult to use. This in no way diminishes the accuracy of the research in the book. It is still highly regarded today as the best work on the Dodge family. Because the Dodge file in the databases of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS or Mormons) has been so corrupted by improper merging and creative genealogical fiction, it is best to enter the information from the book, sourcing it to the reprint including page number.
