RICHMOND, Ind. – Helen Sue Shafer, age 77, of Richmond, died Monday, February 9, 2015, at Reid Hospital. Born January 29, 1938, in Glasgow, Kentucky, to Russell C. and Nina Ruth Britt Edwards, Sue had lived in this area since the late 1980’s. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church and was very active in the United Methodist Women’s Organization. Sue was very involved in the Rose Embroiders Guild, the Rose Garden Festival, and the Lion’s Club Women’s Auxiliary. She enjoyed the Richmond Symphony Orchestra and genealogy. Sue loved spending time with her family. Survivors include her children, James E. (Karen) Cashman of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Bradley R. Shafer and Cynthia L. Shields, both of Terre Haute, Indiana; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Susan Joy Smellie of Naples, Florida and Linda (David) Polzin of Toledo, Ohio; two nieces; and three nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Shafer, who died on October 19, 1995; parents; daughter, Virginia Hatcher; and son, Gene Shafer. Visitation for Helen Sue Shafer will be from 4 to 7:00 p.m. (EST) Friday, February 13, 2015, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. (EST) Saturday, February 14, 2015, at Central United Methodist Church, 1425 East Main Street, Richmond, with Rev. Kerry O’Brien officiating. Burial will be on Sunday, February 15, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. (CST) at Glasgow Municipal Cemetery in Glasgow, Kentucky with Rev. Doug Stilwell officiating.
