Charles Cute Ballard

Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m. in Watts Funeral Home for Charlie C. Ballard, 89, who passed away Tuesday at Sandhills General Hospital after an illness of only a few hours. Interment will be in the Wood Lake cemetery.
Mr. Ballard came to Cherry County in 1892 homesteading southwest of Valentine near Kennedy. He ranched in that area, in South Dakota and farmed in Iowa in his lifetime. He retired about 15 years ago and has lived in Valentine enjoying his leisure years especially in fishing.
Mr. Ballard, who had never married, is survived by one brother, Lynn Ballard, 96 of Homestead, Fla., and nieces and nephews.
