MILTON F. ROYLE DEAD
An Old and Respected Citizen Passes Peacefully Away
Yesterday morning at 10:15 o'clock Milton F. Royle died of uremic poisoning, at his home 1108 South street. His poor health for a long time caused his death to be less of a surprise, but no less a sorrow to his many friends.
Mr. Royle was born in Lexington, Kentucky, June 24, 1835, and was nearly 76 years old. He came to Lexington with his father, James, when six years old. At the age of twelve he became a clerk in the mercantile house of McGrew and continued in this position until the McGrew business was purchased by Royle, Newman and Wells. From time to time changes were made in the firm but Mr. Royle remained with it until about twelve years ago when he closed out the stock and entered the employ of Fredendall & Wilson, whose store was then located on the corner of 11th and Main streets. He continued with this firm until early this spring when his health caused him to retire.
Mr. Royle united with the Baptist church of this place in 1851, and has ever been loyal and devoted Christian member, serving as deacon for almost fifty years. He was married in 1857 to Miss Fannie E. Shotwell, in this city. To this union two children were born, Fannie E., now Mrs. Bain, and Charles. They have also reared one grandson, Milton F. Jr., who was as a son to him. All these reside in Lexington.
Mr. Royle was a good man. He worked conscientiously at whatever his mind and hand found to do, and he was always actively engaged. He will always be remembered as a patient, kind and loving father and friend.
The funeral will be held tomorrow evening at two o'clock from the Baptist church. Rev. R.T. Mansfield will conduct the services. Burial will be in Machpelah.
