"John W. McKinney Called by Death - SHERMAN, Texas Feb. 2. - John W. McKinney, 85, died at his home north of Anna Friday evening. He was the last of the grandsons of Collin McKinney, pioneer, for whom the county and its county seat were named. He was County Tax Collector for four years, 1890 through 1894, and was manager of the State prison system for two years under Gov. O.B. Colquitt. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Van Alstyne Christian Church, with the Rev. Leo Johnston, pastor of the Oak Cliff Christian Church of Dallas, and the Rev. Lloyd Mottley, pastor at Van Alstyne, officiating. Burial was in the Van Alstyne Cemetery. Mr. McKinney married Miss Eliza Matthews in 1873 and to them were born the following children: W.E. McKinney, E. M. McKinney, Newt McKinney and Mrs. J.F. Cox, all of Anna; J.K. McKinney of Van Alstyne, Dick McKinney of Estes Park, Colo., J.W. McKinney and Mrs. Guy Stinnett of McKinney. There are seventeen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. He was married a second time, in 1896, to Miss Mollie Moore of Houston, who survives."
