Linda Louise Raynor
(2 Dec 1943 - 2 Mar 2020)
Linda Louise Smith (Raynor), 76, peacefully returned to her heavenly home on March 2, 2020, after many years with a long illness in Jacksonville, Florida. Her devotion to her family and her unwavering belief in God gave her support in her struggle and ultimately gave her peace.
Linda was born to the late Kenneth Henry and Hattie Louise (Speer) Raynor, a mechanic and a homemaker respectively, in Patchogue, Long Island, New York, on December 2, 1943. At the age of 9 months, her family moved to Orlando, Florida, where she grew up, and attended Maynard Evans High School and graduated in 1961.
It was in Florida that she met and married her best friend, Walter Lee Smith, on July 22, 1962, and they were happily married over 57 years. Linda and Lee raised two children and moved to Waycross, Georgia where they lived for over 11 years. Finally, in 1983, Linda and Lee moved to Jacksonville, Florida where she remained until her death.
Linda worked for numerous years in the insurance business and was a longtime active member of Westside Baptist Church for over 35 years. She volunteered her time for over 20 years in the Westside Baptist Bookstore and was an avid reader and lover of all music. Linda looked forward to all her travels with her husband, Lee, and traveled to all 50 states in her lifetime. During her travels she always had a camera in her hand and especially loved Yellowstone National Park. Linda loved laughing and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Linda is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years, Walter Lee Smith; her daughter, Michelle Thornton, Winder, GA and her son Douglas Smith and wife, Lisa, Jacksonville, FL; her brother, Kenneth Raynor, Orlando, FL, and sister, Cheryl Becker, Daytona Beach, FL; her grandchildren Amanda Berthold (Chris), Jacksonville, FL, Christopher Smith (Alma), Middleburg, FL, Lauren Perreault (Alex), Girard, GA, Hannah Frawley (Eamon), Lawrenceville, GA, Phillip Thornton, Dacula, GA, and Suzanne Thornton, Winder, GA; 3 great-grandchildren, Sydney, Madeline, and Wesley; and many other loving family members.
Linda’s friends and family will be received at Jacksonville Memory Gardens, 111 Blanding Blvd., Orange Park, Florida, on Saturday, March 7, 2020, from 12:00pm to 1:00pm. Funeral services will follow in the funeral home at 1:00pm, and will be officiated by Pastor Keith Russell and Pastor Ray Mayfield of Westside Baptist Church. Burial services will immediately follow at the same location.
