CRAWFORD, LAUREL GERALDINE "GERI" Laurel Geraldine "Geri" Crawford, age 88 of Homewood, passed away September 22, 2011 at her home at Brookdale Place in Homewood. Geri was born in Atlanta, Georgia on April 10, 1923. She attended Girls Industrial School in Atlanta and lived there until her marriage to Charles Gordon Crawford in 1941. They were residents of Birmingham since 1960. An active member of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), she was the local and state Christian Women Fellowship President in Mississippi while living in Meridian, Mississippi. In Birmingham, she was active in a bridge club, the CWF at Valley Christian Church, a dance club, and an investment club. She volunteered as a room mother, and cub scout mother and was involved with her sons' activities a they grew up. Her children knew her as strong and honest, a mother of wisdom and humor. People were drawn to her infectious smile. Her sons were often told by her friends what a dear sweet person she was. She loved being with her husband and their friends. Geri was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Charles Gordon Crawford. She is survived by her sons, William Edward (Hope) of Birmingham, Fred Charles (Carol) of Lake Mitchell, and John David of Montgomery; her grandchildren, Andrew, Charles Edward and Mathew Crawford, Kelley Romanowski, Hollis Marshall, Laurel Marie Crawford and Mary Josephine Crawford; and great-grandchildren, Cassidy Crawford, Anne Scott, Crawford, and Charles David Romanowski, and Huntley, Madeline and William Marshall. Visitation will be held at Valley Christian Church (off Hwy 280) on Monday, October 10, 2011 at 12 noon followed by a memorial service at 1:00 pm. She will be interned with her husband at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorial donations be made to Valley Christian Church, 2600 Cherokee Place, Birmingham, Alabama 35216.
