Individual Details
Aaron Walker Machen
(4 Sep 1826 - 17 Mar 1910)
Our esteemed fellow citizen and Father in Israel, Aaron Machen, was born September 6, 1826 and died at his home near Rock Springs Church, March 17, 1910, at the ripe old age of 84 years.
At the age of about 25, he was married to Miss Susan Sheppard, who has been all these years of their married life, a faithful and obedient wife. To them were born four sons and three daughters. The wife, four sons, and two daughters survive him.
The very large congregation of relatives and friends who attended the funeral was an evident token of the love and esteem the people held for him. He became a member of the Baptist church over 50 years ago, and has served as a deacon over 40 years. He has been a member of Rock Springs church for many years. He was , as long as he was able to go, a consistent member, always at his post when duty demanded it.
He lived long enough to see all his children become Christians and also to see them married.
In his death the wife has lost a devoted husband; the children an affectionate father, the community one of its best citizens and the church one of its truest members.
