Marna Wood Snow died on December 18, 2009 at her home near Simpsonville.
Born in 1922, in Edgington, IL, she was the daughter of the late John Ray Wood and Elsie Wilken Wood.
Surviving children are Wanda Snow Franklin (Britt) of Columbia, MD, Doris Snow Cocking (Rick) of Boca Raton, FL, Donald Dean Snow (Judy) of Baton Rouge, LA, Guy Timothy Snow (Carla) of Cornelius, NC, and step-daughter Patricia Weathers Ellis (Don) of Gastonia, NC.
Grandchildren are Lisa Franklin Wesley (Nathan) of Ellicott City, MD, Erin Franklin Viens (Neil) of Augusta, GA, Jonathan Seth Franklin of Columbia, MD, Cara Cocking Tang (Doug) of St. Louis, MO, Wendy Cocking Adkins (Paul) of Charlottesville, VA, Christina Snow Smith (Stephen) of Nashville, TN, John Claytor Snow of Baton Rouge, LA, Alexandra Snow DiMuzio (Paul) of Charlotte, NC, Courtney Elizabeth Snow and Mary Katherine Bernadette Snow of Cornelius, NC, and step-granddaughters Dana Ellis LeWorthy (Bill) of Gastonia, NC, and Lisa Ellis Terry of Hillsborough, NC. Great-grandchildren are Ezra, Noah, and Micah Wesley, Ashley, Ella, and Irelyn Viens, and Jake and Ryan Adkins.
Also surviving are her sister Paulena Wood Broadfoot of Cape Coral, FL, and brothers Henry Leslie Wood (Nancy) and Dwight Morrow Wood (Martha) of Edgington, IL, and Elmer Glenn Wood of Champaign, IL. Special friends are Rhonda Lewis of Simpsonville, and George and Amy Chang of Taoyuan City, Taiwan and their daughters Tracy and Jenny.
During World War II, Marna served as a WAVE in the U.S. Navy. After hospital corps training, she served as a dental technician at the Marine Barracks at Parris Island, SC. Marna graduated from Furman University in 1962. She taught math and science at Hillcrest High School from 1962-1970, then transferred to Bryson Middle School, where she taught math from 1970 to 1984. She was a member of Standing Springs Baptist Church, a member of the Simpsonville Order of the Eastern Star, and she bowled for many years with the "Young at Heart" bowling league at Wade Hampton Bowling. Marna loved to travel and had visited 44 states and 21 countries.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 30 at 3:00 pm at the Chapel at Cannon Memorial Park, 1150 N. Main St., Fountain Inn, with visitation prior from 1:30 to 2:45 pm. Online condolences may be made at www.cannonfunerals.com.
