Wayne County Outlook, 7 Apr 1910
Mrs. Jenney H. Ragan was born in Shearer Valley March 4, 1863, she was the youngest daughter of C.G. and Melissa Hicks. She was married to Marshal Ragan, who died in 1902, leaving her to fight the battle of life alone with three small children. Two years after her husband was taken, she came to Monticello and with untiring industry and economy made the little home for the children in which she breathed her last. Sister Ragan was a lifelong sufferer from rheumatism, but through all her physical suffering and struggles to raise and care for her fatherless children she was never known to murmur or complain, but with true motherly devotion went cheerfully about her work, exhibiting the highest type of christian fortitude's and patience she "fought a good fight furnished her cause, she kept the faith" henceforth these is laid up for her a crown of righteousness which she has gone to receive. May her children follow in her footsteps.
