Billy Ray (B.R.) Davis, 70, of Fawil died Thursday, May 11, 2006 at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital following a short illness. Born in Bon Wier, Texas on March 12, 1936. He was a native of Newton County. Billy Ray was successful in several careers. As a young man, he worked the oil fields in Sour Lake and drove trucks. He and his family lived in Kirbyville where he operated a dairy farm for several years. He worked construction for the Brown & Root Company before becoming the wood-yard superintendent for the Owen-Illinois plant in Jasper. After several years he became the wood yard superintendent at the Kirby (LP) Forest Products plant in Fawil. He retired after 22 years with Kirby (LP). After retirement he enjoyed many hobbies including hunting, fishing, raising livestock, woodwork and enjoying his many grandchildren. He will be missed by his coffee buddies at A.J.'s Country Store in Fawil and the Kirbyville Brookshire Brothers with whom he enjoyed sharing email. Billy Ray Davis is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jessie Mae Davis of Fawil; his sons, James (Monkey) Davis and wife, Stephanie of Kirbyville, Don Davis and wife, Debbie of Bon Wier, Poncho Davis and wife, Amanda of Fawil, his daughters, Mary Ann Decker and husband, John, Helen Fay Hamby and husband, Terry, Tina Viola Packard and husband Kelly, all of Nacogdoches one daughter-in-law, Sue Davis of Arlington, his brothers, Rev. Carl F. Davis and Donald Wayne Davis, both of Bon Wier, sister Dorothy Jean Davis of Newton. Also 24 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. B.R. Davis was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Mercedes Davis of Fawil, one sister, Lemate Jane Clare of Singer, LA. and one son, Buddy (Vernon Ray) Davis of Arlington. The funeral was at the Fawil Pentecostal Church with Rev. Stephen Pitts, Rev. Harold Perdue and Rev. Carl Davis officiating and burial at Davis Cemetery in Fawil.
